Members of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests have a message for La Crosse Diocese’s Bishop designate William Callahan -- three goals it would like him to achieve in his first 100 days on the job.

SNAP Midwest director Peter Isely says the La Crosse Diocese has cleared clergy with sexual abuse reports against them at a higher percentage rate than anywhere else in the country. He says 3 goals would help Callahan turn that trend around.

SNAP would like to see independent investigations into abuse claims and records on Reverend Patrick Umberger, recently arrested for allegedly possessing child porn, and a complete overhaul of diocesan review board personnel policies and procedures.

Callahan’s first day is next Wednesday. Isely says he’ll be back in 100 days to see if Callahan has begun to tackle the three goals.
