New Hampshire's Catholics are in line to get a new bishop.

As required by the church, Bishop John B. McCormack of the Diocese of Manchester, who turned 75 on Thursday, has submitted his resignation to Pope Benedict XVI.

The Vatican will name a replacement, but the process could take six to eight months.

The Diocese of Manchester oversees all of New Hampshire's estimated 310,000 Catholics.

Diocese spokesman Kevin Donovan tells the New Hampshire Union Leader this is the first time in the diocese's 125-year history that the state's bishop has had to resign on turning 75.
