Testifying in US Bankruptcy Court on August 12, seven abuse victims recounted in detail their sufferings at the hands of priests of the Diocese of Wilmington. Bishop W. Francis Malooly, who was present at the proceedings, called the abuse “horrible” and “criminal.”

The court, which is considering the claims of 157 people who allege abuse, will also decide whether 81 suits against individual parishes may proceed. The diocese filed for bankruptcy in October.
