The Rev. Bill Vandergraph was indicted by a Union County grand jury Friday on three sexual assault counts, The Southern Illinoisan reported.

Circuit Judge Mark Boie announced, during a preliminary hearing on other charges Friday, that a grand jury had indicted Vandergraph, 72, the newspaper said. The grand jury confirmed the original charge of predatory criminal sexual assault of a minor and added two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

If convicted, Vandergraph could be sentenced to up to 60 years in prison on the first count and up to seven years on the others.

The pastor of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Alto Pass and former president of the Friends of the Cross board, Vandergraph accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl on two occasions, the newspaper said.

The judge granted defense motions requesting a mental evaluation of the defendant and allowing his two adopted children, ages 13 and 14, to live in his house, as long as a third party is present while the children are in the home.

Vandergraph is not allowed to have any contact with other minors.

There have been no allegations of wrongdoing with those children, attorneys said.

The next court hearing is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 31.
