  Irish Priests Step down Following Allegations

In a sign that Irish dioceses are adopting the recent approach of US dioceses to dealing with abuse allegations, two popular Irish priests-- Father Eugene Boland of the Diocese of Derry and Father Oliver Brennan of the Archdiocese of Armagh-- have gone on leave following abuse allegations.

“While this process is ongoing, the priest is entitled to the benefit of a presumption of innocence,” said Bishop Seamus Hegarty of Derry.
