A FREED priest, who was jailed for child abuse, has set up home just yards from a school.

Father David Taylor admitted indecently assaulting three lads aged between 12 and 15 at Durham Crown Court last year.

He was jailed for two and a half years but was released early from jail this week after serving half his sentence and is now living within yards of two schools.

Locals near the 59-year-old’s home in Bedlington, are furious the sex offender is being allowed to live so close to children.

Meadowdale County Middle School and St Benet Biscop Catholic High School, as well as the Bedlington Bears nursery and a popular playing field, are within five minutes of Taylor’s house.

“I can’t believe he has been allowed to live back here,” said one neighbour, a mum with children aged three and one.

“There are a lot of young children in this street, and during term-time there are always kids walking back and forth to the schools.

“I don’t let my children play outside the garden anyway, but now I will be keeping them even closer. It is really scary that someone like that is so close. We want him to be moved.”

Another man, who lives with his partner and her two toddlers, said: “I know he has got to live somewhere, but anyone with kids will tell you they would rather he lived behind a 10-foot wall and a locked gate.

“It was a long time ago and maybe he has changed but you can’t be sure of that. My oldest lad is 12 and when he comes to stay he plays out in the field behind the street. I will be keeping a close eye on him now.”

Another neighbour said: “We’re not happy that Taylor is back here, we’re worried it will bring trouble to the street.”
