Statement by David Clohessy Executive Director of SNAP 314 566 9790

Today, a judge sided with Catholic officials who want clergy sex abuse and cover up records kept sealed.

Today, Peoria's bishop wins and Peoria parents and parishioners lose.

Secrecy protects only those who commit or conceal child sex crimes. It hurts victims and endangers kids. It leaves parents in the dark about information that could be used to safeguard their kids.

We're very sad that once again, as they have been for decades, parishioners and the public are being kept in the dark while corrupt church officials are being protected.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 22 years and have more than 9,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)
