A JURY has been sworn in to hear the case of a Teesside vicar who is charged with raping a teenage girl.

The jury of seven women and five men at Teesside Crown Court were told that Malcolm Jackson, 52, had been curate of St Nicholas's Church in Guisborough and vicar of Kirkleatham, Redcar.

They were also told that the vicar, who wore a dark suit and blue tie, denies charges of rape, attempted rape, sexual activity with a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity between June 27, 2007, and March 31, 2008.

The girl cannot be named for legal reasons.

Judge Tony Briggs yesterday adjourned the hearing until today when the Crown was due to open the case.

Jackson, who is currently suspended, had his bail continued.
