Rev Malcolm Jackson

Reverend Malcolm Jackson, vicar of Kirkleatham parish, Redcar, was today cleared of all charges following a sexual abuse trial.

The 52-year-old vicar cried and hugged his loved ones and supporters after he left the dock following the unanimous verdicts.

A jury of seven women and five men found him not guilty on charges of rape, attempted rape, sexual activity with a child and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

The jurors took one hour to reach their decisions.

Reverend Jackson said the allegations that he sexually abused a girl under 16 while he was a curate of St Nicholas Church in Guisborough were lies.

Reverend Jackson, of Mersey Road, Redcar, said the alleged incidents didn't happen.

The Archbishop of York is to lift Reverend Jackson’s suspecion from his role as vicar of Kirkleatham.
