A Canadian archbishop based in Spencerville, south of Ottawa, has taken a leave of absence over a police investigation into accusations of sexual abuse dating back nearly 30 years. Archbishop Seraphim Storheim -- the Canadian head of the Orthodox Church in America -- requested a leave of absence in the wake of a Winnipeg police investigation. According to SNAP Orthodox -- an American advocacy group for abuse survivors -- the claims involve two now-adult men who allege the abuse happened in the early 1980s, while the pair visited Winnipeg. In a letter posted on SNAP Orthodox's website Tuesday, the organization said the abuse involved two 10-year-old boys and allegedly came to the attention of the church more than 20 years ago.
