NORTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. -- A Catholic priest in New Jersey has been removed from service over allegations he sexually abused a minor in the diocese of Allentown 30 years ago.

Church officials said Father Gregory Uhrig was removed as pastor of a church in North Plainfield, N.J., last week, after an investigation found the allegations "had a semblance of truth."

Father Uhrig is denying the allegations.

He served almost two decades in the Allentown diocese. He was at Saint Anthony's parish in Easton from 1978 to 1982, and later served at Saint Ursula's in Fountain Hill, Lehigh County and St. John the Baptist in Whitehall Township.

Church officials said the Allentown diocese reported the allegations to Pennsylvania law enforcement authorities several months ago, but they were not pursued because the statute of limitations had expired.
