A Newcastle Court has heard a retired Hunter Valley Catholic Priest, charged with 14 child sex offences, bribed one of his alleged victims with cash and lollies.

Father Dennis Corrigan from Mayfield has faced Newcastle Local Court for the first time.

The 68-year-old retired priest was charged last month with more than a dozen sexual assault offences, including one count of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16 and under his authority.

Police charge sheets say Corrigan tongue-kissed a 12-year-old boy in the late 1980's when he was a priest at Windale.

It's also alleged he masturbated in front of another boy whilst holding money he owed the 15-year-old for chores he had completed.

And on another occasion, police say he told the boy he would give him money and lollies if he touched his genitals.

Corrigan's conditional bail has been continued and the matter will be mentioned again in December.
