A seventh complaint has been made to gardai alleging sexual abuse by a priest in the Cloyne diocese.

Officers have interviewed a woman who claims she was abused by the priest more than 20 years ago, when she was a young teenager.

The priest was a curate in the Cloyne diocese at the time.

The priest has also been interviewed by gardai. A file is now being prepared for the DPP, who currently has two other files about the priest to consider.

The DPP has directed that no prosecution be taken against the priest in four other complaints brought against him.

He is now in his 70s and is no longer in active ministry in Cloyne.

It follows a recent decision by the DPP not to prosecute the former Bishop of Cloyne, Dr John Magee, after a complaint was made by a retired teacher that he endangered children by withholding information from gardai examining allegations of child sexual abuse by another priest in the diocese.
