  Priest Guilty of Abusing Boy

A Dublin priest has been convicted of buggering and sexually abusing a boy almost 30 years ago.

At Dublin Criminal Court the jury returned verdicts of guilty on nine counts of indecent assault and five counts of buggery on the boy between June 1, 1979, and June 30, 1983.

The victim was aged between seven and 11 years old at the time of the offences.

The 54-year-old accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was earlier found not guilty by direction of the trial judge on one count each of indecent assault and buggery in the Phoenix Park on February 18, 1980. He was remanded in custody for sentencing.

New investor eyes Aer Arann

A NEW investor is prepared to take a stake in Aer Arann if the scheme designed to ensure the airline's survival is approved, the High Court has heard.

Ms Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan was told by lawyers acting for the airline's examiner, Michael McAteer, that a new investor had held discussions with the company.

The judge adjourned consideration of the survival scheme until tomorrow.

Man pulled a knife in fight

A MAN is to be sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in January for producing a knife during a fight in the city.

Ajet Cala, also known as Julian Betuzzi (26), with an address at Inishfree Court, Sligo town, pleaded guilty to producing the knife at Davitt Road, Drimnagh, on April 2, 2002.

He was remanded on bail until January 17.
