A Gaston County grand jury indicted a man accused of raping and molesting a girl over the course of five years.

Andy Lee Long, 40, of 729 Helton Road, was indicted Monday on three counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of statutory sex offense, one count of statutory rape and three other sex offenses.

The allegations came about when the girl attended a church retreat and told a pastor about the abuse, according to Gaston County Police.

Warrants were issued in mid-October after the teenager gave sworn testimony that Long sexually assaulted her from the time she was 8 until she was 13. All of the offenses occurred at Cherryville addresses, according to arrest warrants.

Long was initially held on a $500,000 bond that was later reduced to $100,000. He has since posted bond and been released.

The grand jury handed down a total of 203 true bills of indictment this week in Gaston County.

Leon Barnett Jr.

A Gastonia man was indicted on a count of maiming.

Leon Barnett Jr., 33, of 402 South Hill St., attempted to put out an eye of Jennifer Sims by striking her about the eye with a lit blunt-type cigar with intent to maim and disfigure, according to a warrant. The affidavit says the cigar burned her eye.

Barnett is out of jail on a $25,000 secured bond.

Logan Johnson

A Gastonia teenager has been indicted on three counts of indecent liberties with a child and three counts of statutory rape.

Logan Christopher Johnson, 18, of 320 Beacon Hills, is accused of having sex with a 12-year-old Kings Mountain girl, according to Gaston County Police.

Johnson and the girl had sexual intercourse and other sexual relations on at least three occasions from Jan. 15 to May 30, according to Capt. Joe Ramey with the Gaston County Police Department.

The sex cannot be considered consensual by law because of the girl's age, but the acts were not forced upon her, according to Ramey.

Johnson and the girl met through a mutual friend. Ramey would not comment as to how they communicated, but the encounters took place at Johnson's Gastonia home. The girl's parents eventually found out about the incidents and reported it to police.

Johnson's bond was set at $100,000 but later reduced to $25,000. He has posted bond and been released.
