A teacher at the John Knox Child Development Center has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into an allegation of sexual abuse involving a 19-month-old child last week.

Officer Jason Willingham said Tulsa police are early in the investigation and that a "person of interest," who is a church employee, has been identified.

No arrest has been made, and Willingham said he does not know when the investigation will be complete.

The center, operated by the John Knox Presbyterian Church at 2929 E. 31st St., has a one-star rating from the state Department of Human Services.

On its last three DHS inspections - Jan. 12, May 11 and Sept. 21 - no areas of noncompliance were noted, and no complaints have been lodged against the center, records show.

DHS spokeswoman Lauri Monetti said the agency was notified by the center about the allegations on Thursday.

"We know about it and are working on it," Monetti said.

In a letter sent to parents Friday, center Director Stephanie Taylor and the Rev. Jeffrey K. London state that they are following child-protection protocol and are cooperating with all investigative agencies.

The letter states that DHS asked that a teacher be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

"This is a routine request," the letter states. "At this early state of the investigation, full disclosure means full cooperation with the agencies and authorities investigation. Therefore, it would be premature to say anything further without tainting the ongoing investigation."
