FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - The sexual misconduct crisis which has rocked the Catholic Church was the topic of conversation on Sunday afternoon at the University of St. Francis. It was a free public lecture that examined ways the Church can overcome the crisis.

The lecture in Fort Wayne comes just as Pope Benedict XVI is being interviewed for a new book about the church of more than 1.1 billion followers.

Sunday's lecture focused on Catholic traditions such as priests not being allowed to marry. Surveys show a growing number of people believe allowing priests to marry will solve many of the problems that caused the sex abuse crisis.

Adam DeVille, assistant professor of Theology at St. Francis moderated the lecture and question & answer forum.

"It is clear there is no silver bullet that is going to ... make everything right over night," said DeVille. "[The crisis] is an ongoing challenge, but with the right people in place and the right character, I think is it something [the Church] can turn the page on."

Locally, Bishop Emeritus John D'arcy has been an outspoken critic on how the Church has immediately handled the sex abuse crisis and he has been an aggressive advocate for the victims of sexual abuse.

Last year, the Pope allowed married Anglican bishops to become Catholic priests, but there has been no recent progression towards a married priesthood.
