DETAILS

On Tuesday, nationally-recognized attorney JEFFREY HERMAN announced the filing of new lawsuits in Connecticut Federal Court by two men who allege they were sexually abused by the leader of their Brownsville, Texas, COLUMBIAN SQUIRES circle, JULIAN RIVERA. The men both allege that RIVERA sexually abused them multiple times during their involvement in the Columbian Squires, the youth program of the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS. Membership in the Squires is limited to Catholic boys ages 10-18.

One of the Plaintiffs, who was identified in his lawsuit as John Doe No. 1, will speak publicly for the first time about his allegations in response to statements made Tuesday by the Knights of Columbus. The man alleges that Rivera groomed and sexually abused him between 1978 and 1986, after plying him with drugs and alcohol, and that Rivera repeatedly threatened his life and his family's lives.

According to the lawsuits, Rivera remained the leader of the Brownsville Columbian Squires until recently despite an alleged report to two Knights of Columbus officials in 1986 that he had sexually abused a boy in his Squires circle.

John Doe No. 1 v. Knights of Columbus (Case No. 10-CV-1960) and Dennany v. Knights of Columbus (Case No. 10-CV-1961) were filed Tuesday morning. Copies will be available at the news conference. They are also available at http://jessicaarbour.blogspot.com.
