Counselling service, Connect, will open this evening and over the weekend to provide telephone-based counselling and support, following today’s launch of Chapter 19 of the Murphy Report.

The service provides professional counselling to survivors of abuse at freephone 1800 477 477 from the Republic of Ireland and 00800 477 477 77 from Northern Ireland.

The service is open tonight from 6-10pm and will also open on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Connect Chief Executive Officer Anne Richardson said the service received a large volume of calls at the time of the launch of the Ryan and Murphy reports and was expecting an increase in calls over the coming days.

Connect was established at the request of survivor groups to provide a phone counselling and support service to people who have suffered abuse.
