A Catholic priest from the eastern village of Ruscica (Klakar District, Brod-Posavina County) has been accused of domestic violence by his extramarital partner with whom he has two children.

The 48-year-old Zeljko Zuanovic has allegedly sent threatening text messages to his partner of 15 years, 38-year-old K.Z. The messages allegedly referred to their two children.

K.Z.lodged her report in Zadar where she has been hid, fearing violence.

Zuanovic was questioned and released, with criminal charges raised against him.

K.Z. said that she is concerned about whether she would be able to continue to live in the house that the two had built together. "I am afraid I could end up on the street."

The priest refused to comment on the case when questioned by the reporters of the Croatian daily Jutarnji List. He was curious to know, however, how the journalists had found out about the case. He asked them whether "that madam" had given them the information.

Zuanovic also said that he has heard that the same "madam" had withdrawn the accusation.

"It would be better not to burden the public with these stupidities. Behind me stand only harmony and work," Zuanovic told the journalists, reminding them of his various accomplishments such as churches he built and books he has published.
