GUELPH — Guelph Police have charged a man with sexual assault in connection with an investigation into a complaint against a Catholic priest’s actions in the city in 1984.

The 67-year-old suspect was a priest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at the time of the alleged crime.

He has also been a priest at several other parishes in the region, according to police.

City police started the investigation in December. It was a case handled by the police service’s sexual assault child abuse unit.

The suspect has been released from custody. He is to appear in court in March.
