A Boston attorney on Wednesday released a list of more than 100 clergymen he said agreed to settlements or arbitration awards after being accused of sexually abusing children, including 19 names he said have never been publicly available before.

Mitchell Garabedian, who specializes in representing victims of clergy sex abuse, posted the list of 117 names on his firm’s website today. He said he posted the list after waiting two years for the Boston Archdiocese to make good on promises to publicly post its own list of “credibly accused” priests.

“The archdiocese has not done it even though it said it would for two years,” he said. “It’s a symbol of validation that’s very important to victims.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for the archdiocese said it reports all allegations of clergy sex abuse to law enforcement officials and makes public announcements when priests are removed from the ministry pending an investigation into allegations of sex abuse or is convicted.

“We will continue to make public announcements on such cases and will convey this information to the person or persons who brought forward the complaint, to the parishes and institutions where the priest served and to the community at large,” the archdioceses’ statement reads.

The spokeswoman said all 11 new names on Garabedian’s list were deceased when they were first accused of abuse.

The Patriot Ledger is not naming the priests, deacons and members of religious order, including four with connections to southeastern Massachusetts, because they were not prosecuted and because inadquate information was provided to verify the claims against them. Many of the allegations are decades old and many of those who were named are dead.
