Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission for former residential school students is coming to the Northwest Territories.

The commission has announced it will stop in Inuvik in June 2011, as one of seven national events to facilitate healing and find the truth behind the school system.

Since the 1870s, some 150,000 Aboriginal, Metis, and Inuit children were forced to leave their homes and go to residential schools around Canada.

There were 15 schools in the NWT, including six in the Delta region where the national forum will take place next June.

The first national event will be in Winnipeg this June.

The three-person Truth and Reconciliation Commission includes Yellowknife resident Marie Wilson, who will help record stories and testimony from the residential school era.
