A FORMER Coventry priest appeared in court yesterday charged with abusing four boys in the 1980s and 90s.

Alexander Bede Walsh faces 13 counts of indecent assault against three boys, and four of indecent assault and two of committing a serious sexual offence against a fourth.

The alleged offences happened in the Chapelfields area of Coventry, and in Cotton, Staffordshire, between 1982 and 1994.

Walsh was priest at All Souls Church, in Kingsland Avenue, Earlsdon between 1982 and 1985.

All the alleged victims were boys under the age of 16 and three of the four are from the Coventry area.

Walsh, 57, of Abbotts Bromley, Staffordshire, spoke only to confirm his details during his first appearance at Stoke Magistrates Court yesterday.

Wearing a grey fleece, light grey top and grey trousers, he listened intently as all 19 charges were read out by the clerk.

The court heard the first alleged victim was indecently assaulted four times between 1982 and 1989, the second alleged victim five times between 1988 and 1994 and the third alleged victim four times between 1983 and 1987.
