LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The attorney for a couple who is suing the archdiocese of Louisville said his clients have been targeted since filing their lawsuit.

"I've never seen retaliation like this while practicing law over the past 30 years," said attorney Mikell Crafton.

He said the day after Gary and Margie Weiter went public with their claims against the church, they were fired as bingo volunteers.

Margie Weiter said she was fired from her job as a parish bookkeeper after complaining that the Rev. James Schook was secretly brought to St. Therese to live after he was accused of sexual abuse.

On Thursday, the archdiocese said it was surprised by the lawsuit.
