On my morning jog through a large county park, I passed a city worker in a remote section of the park, who had taken time from him tractor/ earth mover work to pee on the side of the path. I've often taken detours in my life or gone along less traveled routes; as a result, I have seen funny and rare (sometimes sad) things that I imagine many haven't seen. This incident reminded me of the Pope's 1984 visit to Los Angeles. I was in the seminary at the time and had some role in the event that gave me a special ground level seat in the mass. When I went to the stadium sized restroom, I wished I had brought a camera to photograph a swarm of fantastic vestments, black and white clerical outfits, robes, gowns and frills, all at the urinal.

While I'm on this theme, I'll admit that when I was in first grade, I wanted to win the spelling bee so bad that I didn't ask to go to the bathroom and couldn't hold it at the chalkboard and left a puddle near my mis-spelled word, 'ORNGE'. So, we're all human. We all do basic human things and we all make mistakes at different times.

And when humans use bad judgment and harm the lives of others (e.g., child pornography), there are human interventions. There was an outrage over Craig's list and thousands wrote, and that particular site was shut down. And when people mis-use funds or betray public trust, sometimes they go to jail, like Tom Delay recently did.

So what keeping us from seeing and treating the human criminal foibles related to RASA? There is more and more evidence, thanks to the courage and persistence of survivors and supporters, to expose past abuse and contemporary delays and cover up. But this isn't seeing someone in a silly or embarrassing situation. This is seeing criminal behavior.

There is a people's revolution going on in Egypt. Related to religious authority sexual abuse, why isn't there a people's revolution going on? While not exhaustive, this summary is impressive. Read and ask what revolutionary step you'll take to end religious authority sexual abuse everywhere.
