Testimony has begun in the trial of a former Troy priest accused of raping two altar boys.

Sixty-two-year-old Gary Mercure is accused of raping one boy in Great Barrington, Mass. in 1986 and another boy in New Ashford, Mass. in 1989.

The first alleged victim took the stand in Pittsfield, Mass. describing tearfully intricate details of the alleged abuse.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany says they removed Mercure after other allegations. The alleged victims in the trial are from New York and say they traveled with Mercure to Massachusetts.

His lawyer argues Mercure’s DNA does not match the DNA introduced as evidence.

Mercure is free on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty. He was permanently removed from ministry as a priest in 2008.
