After more than 100 years providing area children with a Catholic education, St. Paul's School in Wilmington will close at the end of the school year.

The fallout from the Diocese of Wilmington's bankruptcy and declining enrollment are cited as reasons for the closure.

The recent settlement agreement between survivors of sexual abuse and attorneys representing the diocese includes $53 million from the Catholic Diocese Foundation which is a major funding source for St. Paul's.

The school has seen a decline in enrollment the past few years with the number of students dropping from 243 to 128 in the last decade.

St. Paul's families are encouraged to enroll their children at Our Lady of Fatima by March 1 to qualify for tuition assistance.
