The jury in the Gary Mercure trial will begin deliberating the case against the former priest Thursday afternoon. Both sides rested their cases just before noon following testimony from two Massachusetts state troopers.

The morning got off to an odd start when a juror was dismissed after being questioned about a "tweet" he apparently sent regarding the trial. The man tried to explain that the comment was nothing specific, but Judge John Agostini dismissed him anyway, then questioned the other jurors about any discussions they might have had with the man or anyone else about the case.

Mercure, who served for many years parishes in Queensbury, Glens Falls, Rensselaer and Troy, is accused of sexually abusing two altar boys in separate incidents while on trips to Massachusetts.

The allegations were first made in New York, but could not be tried there because of an expired statute of limitations.
