PITTSFIELD, Mass. - The trial of a New York catholic priest who's accused of taking boys across the border to western Massachusetts and having sex with them decades ago is coming to a close.

Closing arguments are set to begin in Berkshire Superior Court Wednesday at 12:45 p.m.

Earlier this morning, juror number nine was dismissed after he was caught tweeting about the trial. WNYT’s crew inside the courtroom says that the juror was brought into open court. The judge then questioned him, and the juror admitted to the tweets. One of the four alternates will take his seat.

Prosecutors allege the now 62-year-old Gary Mercure of Troy raped the boys in Great Barrington and Monterey in 1986, and in New Ashford in 1989.

Mercure was a priest in the Diocese of Albany, at the time and the alleged victims are from New York.

He has since been permanently removed from ministry.
