A Berkshire County Superior Court jury has found former Roman Catholic priest Gary Mercure guilty of raping two boys.

According to a news release sent to 22News from the Berkshire District Attorney's office, the jury deliberated about two hours over a two day period before returning the verdict against 62 year old Mercure.

Jury deliberations were delayed for a time yesterday after a juror was dismissed for sending a Twitter message.

Mercure was found guilty on two counts of rape of a child:with force, and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Prosecutors said Mercure raped the boys in the Berkshires in the 1980s while a priest in the Diocese of Albany, New York.

Mercure was permanently removed from the ministry in 2008.

Berkshire County D.A. spokesperson Fred Lantz told 22News Mercure faces a maximum of "life in prison."

He is being held without bail pending sentencing next Wednesday.
