CORPUS CHRISTI (February 15, 2011)—A jury Monday in Corpus Christi found former South Texas church pastor Gerardo Gonzalez, 51, not guilty on three charges stemming from the alleged sexual abuse of young relatives, but couldn't reach a verdict on eight other counts.

Jurors deliberated about 7½ hours before returning the verdict Monday.

Gonzalez was cleared on three counts of indecency with a child, while the jury couldn't decide on four more serious charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

The jury also was deadlocked on four other indecency counts.

The two accusers, the oldest of whom is now in her 20s, said Gonzalez physically and sexually abused them when they were children.

Gonzalez testified that the allegations weren't true.

Defense attorney Kenneth Botary told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that prosecutors haven't said whether they will try the case again.
