  Ex-Priest Gets 20-25 Years behind Bars for Rape

PITTSFIELD - An ex-priest from Troy, NY was sentenced Wednesday to 20-25 years behind bars for the rape of two male children back in the 1980's.

62-year-old Gary Mercure was found guilty February 10, 2011 and sentenced Wednesday by Judge John Agostini in Berkshire Superior Court after a 2 hour deliberation from the jury.

Mercure was found guilty on two counts of Rape of a Child: With Force, and one count of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child Under 14 in connection with an incident involving a man who is now 35-years-old.

The two rape incidents occurred in Great Barrington, MA during the months of September and December of 1986.

Mercure was also found guilty on one count of Rape of a Child: With Force in connection with an incident involving a now 34-year-old man. This rape occurred in New Ashford during February 1989.

Judge Agostini ordered Mercure spend 20 - 25 year sentences as the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction on the rape charges. And 3 - 5 year state prison sentence for the Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child Under 14 charge.
