AN JOSE, Calif.—A Northern California man ordered to stand trial for assaulting a Catholic priest he has said molested him and his younger brother more than three decades ago has pleaded not guilty.

Will Lynch of San Francisco reentered his plea Tuesday to one felony count of assault for allegedly beating 65-year-old Jerold Lindner at a Jesuit retirement home in Las Gatos.

The 43-year-old Lynch also pleaded not guilty to the May attack in December, but needed to do so again because a Santa Clara Superior Court judge ruled this month that prosecutors had enough evidence for a trial.

He has said he wants a trial so he can raise awareness about clergy abuse.

Lindner has denied molesting the brothers.

Lynch's defense lawyer, Pat Harris, says the case is on track for a June trial.
