An Oahu grand jury indicted Rev. Bothdan Borowic, a visiting priest from Canada, on kidnapping and sexual assault charges.

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment this morning charging a visiting priest from Canada with kidnapping and sexual assault.

The indictment charges the Rev. Bothdan Borowic with kidnapping and two counts of third-degree sexual assault.

Borowic, 56, remains in custody unable to post $75,000 bail.

The alleged crimes happened Feb. 13 on the grounds of Holy Trinity Church in Kuliouou. A 55-year-old woman told police Borowic held her against her will and groped her.

A spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Hawaii said Borowic was staying at Makai House, at the back of Holy Trinity Church, and led services for the St. Sophia Ukrainian Greek Catholic Mission. Police said the alleged victim is a member of the St. Sophia congregation.

Prosecutor Amy Murakami said Borowic is Ukrainian but had traveled here from Canada.
