http://www.snapnetwork.org/snap_press_releases/2011_press_releases/030211_child_sex_victims_to_hold_quiet_protest.htm

WHAT

Holding signs and childhood photos, clergy sex abuse victims and their supporters will hold a quiet protest while a new Indianapolis Catholic bishop is installed

WHEN

Wednesday, March 2, 12:30 p.m.

WHERE

On the sidewalk across from St. John's Church on Capitol Avenue (between Maryland & Georgia Streets) in Indianapolis IN

WHO

At least a dozen members of three groups - a victims' support group called SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, and two Catholic reform groups, the Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) and the National Survivor Advocates Coalition (NSAC)

WHY

New Indianapolis Bishop-elect Christopher Coyne was Cardinal Bernard Law's PR person from 2002-2005 when the church's child sex abuse and cover up scandal exploded. Law resigned in 2003 after a virtual 'no confidence' vote from dozens of priests of the Boston Archdiocese.

SNAP feels that by promoting Coyne, Pope Benedict is sending two damaging messages. First, he is essentially telling church employees that minimizing, denying or concealing scandals will be rewarded. And second, he is essentially heaping further humiliation and showing more disregard for victims of abuse.

The group questions whether Coyne will also cover up known and suspected child sex crimes in Indiana.
