A retired Hunter Valley Catholic priest has pleaded not guilty to more than a dozen historic child sex offences.

68-year-old Father Dennis Corrigan from Mayfield is accused of 17 child sex offences relating to three boys at an old convent in Windale in the 1980s.

The charges include one count of sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16 and under his authority.

He was this morning arraigned in Newcastle District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to all counts.

A police charge sheet says the former priest masturbated in front of one of the boys and on another occasion told another victim he would give him money and lollies if he touched his genitals.

Corrigan's bail has been continued and his trial will start on 23 May, 2011.
