A new lawsuit accuses two former priests in the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph of molesting a young boy two decades ago, and blames the diocese for failing to stop it.

One of the former priests, Hugh Monahan, has been accused of abusing eight boys in the 1970s and 1980s and was the subject of several lawsuits. The Kansas City diocese says he left the priesthood in 1989.

The other priest, the Rev. Mark Honhart, currently serves in the Diocese of Scranton in Pennsylvania. The lawsuit filed Tuesday is the first time he has been publicly accused of abuse.

The lawsuit claims Honhart began molesting the plaintiff when he was 8 or 9 years old at Kansas City's Holy Cross Parish. Monahan is accused of molesting him four years later.
