David Nelson

PHOENIX - A 64-year-old man has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual conduct with a minor, some 31 years after he victimized a 14-year-old boy.

Four other charges were dismissed as part of David Clarke Nelson's plea deal.

The victim, now an adult, reported the abuse last year. He decided to come forward after talking to his wife and telling her what he went through.

In 1979, Nelson met the boy through the Madison Park Congregation Church and became a friend of his family.

Nelson was a Jehovah's Witness elder, a preacher and leader of the congregation.

In a recorded phone call last year, Nelson admitted to the sexual conduct with the victim and even apologized. He stated that it was all his fault and the victim was totally innocent.

Nelson will be sentenced on April 7. He has since retired from the church.
