A retired priest with ties to Bangor has been reinstated to public ministry.

Father Maurice Lebel was being investigated for sexual abuse.

The complaint came from an individual from Massachusetts who claimed to have been molested in that state as a teen back in the 1980's.

A Catholic Church court has ruled the case has not been proven and no punishment will be imposed.

The 78-year-old priest has been retired since 2003. He has no regular assignment, but now may assist other priests in the administration of the sacraments.

He served as pastor at Saint John's Parish in Bangor from 1986 to 1993.
