SNAP responds to:

- report of prosecutors v. philly catholic hierarchy (mentioned for first time in news accounts today), and

-admission that Archdiocese is paying for defense attorney for Father Brennan

Statement by David Clohessy, SNAP Executive Director, 314 566 9790

We welcome any legal move that might help hold the corrupt Philly Catholic hierarchy responsible for even a few of the hundreds of child sex crimes that happened because church officials acted, and act, so recklessly, callously and deceptively.

The simple truth is that dozens of Philly priests were able to keep sexually assaulting kids because complicit church supervisors ignored and concealed the crimes. So it's only fitting that those church supervisors be criminally charged as well. It's also the best way to deter such egregious wrongdoing in the future, by Catholic officials and others.

We are concerned about a conflict of interest created by the Archdiocese paying for a defense attorney for an accused predator priest. The priest's goal is to stay out of jail. The Archdiocese's goal is to keep secrets hidden. It is a clear conflict of interest. We hope the judge will not allow this.
