YARMOUTH, N.S. - An additional 10 charges have been laid against a former priest in Nova Scotia, bringing to 50 the number of sex-related charges he faces.

Gilles Lemieux, the defence lawyer for Albert LeBlanc, says in an email that his client was a priest in the diocese of Yarmouth.

Forty of the charges were laid in January, and 10 more charges were laid Tuesday.

LeBlanc is charged with 18 counts of indecent assault and 32 counts of gross indecency.

Police have said the charges against LeBlanc, who lives in Bouctouche, N.B., relate to alleged offences from 1967 to 1985 when he lived in Nova Scotia's Yarmouth County.

The case involves six complainants who were children at the time.

Lemieux says his client is scheduled to return to court on May 30 to enter pleas on the charges.

A spokeswoman for the diocese of Yarmouth and Halifax says that LeBlanc was ordained as a priest in Bouctouche in 1955 and he left the priesthood in September 1973.
