As you know, a pre-trial hearing took place today in Sullivan County in the matter of William Casey, who is accused of having sexually abused Warren Tucker when Mr. Tucker was a boy.

Bishop Richard F. Stika of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Knoxville permanently suspended Mr. Casey from priestly ministry last year when Mr. Tucker came forward with his story and Mr. Casey told the bishop the allegations had credibility.

Father David Boettner, vicar general and moderator of the curia for the diocese, testified during the hearing today.

Bishop Stika is overseas, on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, but Father Boettner offers the following statement:

The Diocese of Knoxville supports Warren Tucker in his efforts to seek justice against William Casey, a retired priest who has been permanently removed from ministry and has admitted credibility to Mr. Tucker's accusation of abuse more than 30 years ago. We are truly saddened by the abuse Mr. Tucker experienced, and we thank him for his courage in bringing this abuse to light. We continue to pray for healing for Warren and all of those who have been affected by abuse.
