DeKALB – A fundraiser that was to be held Saturday at the Convocation Center in DeKalb has been canceled after misconduct allegations were made against the keynote speaker.

Father John Corapi was to be the only speaker at a conference planned as a fundraising program for Catholic Charities, Frank Vonch, director of the agency, said in a news release from the Rockford Diocese.

On March 18, all U.S. bishops were sent a memo from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops that said Corapi had been placed on administrative leave and removed of his priestly duties after officials received allegations of misconduct about the priest, according to the news release.

"On Ash Wednesday I learned that a former employee sent a three-page letter to several bishops accusing me of everything from drug addiction to multiple sexual exploits with her and several other women," Corapi reported on his website.

Corapi said all of the allegations are false, and asked for people to "pray for all concerned."

All ticket sales and sponsorships will be refunded. Anyone with questions is asked to call the Catholic Charities office at 815-387-3374 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.
