A Philadelphia judge issued a gag order Friday, forbidding four Archdiocesan priests, one parochial school teacher, all involved attorneys including district attorney Seth Williams to discuss with the press the allegations of sexual misconduct and conspiracy alleged in a recent grand jury report.

Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes presided over a two-hour hearing dominated by ethical questions about the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's payment of legal bills for the Msgr. William Lynn, former secretary of the clergy and now facing charges of child endangerment. The judge said attorneys paid for by the church might potentially care more about protecting the church and less about their true client.

The judge also stated that Richard DiSipio, defense attorney for the Rev. James Brennan, might be called as a witness in the case. Prosecutors said they were investigating a report that DiSipio, once a student at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, might have knowledge of an incident involving a priest and occurring more than 20 years ago. Details about that incident and DiSipio's role were not disclosed in court. But the judge cautioned Brennan that his attorney might be unable to represent him.
