Oliver O'Grady

Former priest Oliver O'Grady (65) has been charged in Dublin with the possession of thousands of pornographic images of children.

The defendant has lived in various addresses in Ireland since he was extradited from the United States in 2001. He rents a storage lock-up facility and a postbox in Ireland to store his personal belongings.

The documentary ”Deliver Us from Evil” featured O’Grady’s long career as a pedophile priest and won best documentary award at the Los Angles Film Festival in 2006.

O'Grady was arrested in Dublin on December 10 for the possession of child porn. In court Detective Garda Johanna Doyle told Judge Cormac Dunne that three further charges have been brought against the defrocked priest. The material confiscated included images and videos on a USB key, an external hard drive and a laptop computer.

Detective Johanna Doyle told the court, "We are talking about thousands upon thousands of images of child pornography. Children from the age of two and three up to teenage boys and girls.”

O'Grady is also being charged with the importation of child pornography through Dublin Airport, according to the Examiner.

Having been charged with these crimes O'Grady, made no comment. Detective Doyle said that O'Grady is complying with the terms of his bail. He is currently living in a hostel in Dublin's City Center.

A state lawyer told the court that the Department of Public Prosecution had directed "trial on indictment on the new charges and the existing charge." This means his case will be sent forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and he will appear in court in May to be served with a book of evidence and returned for trial.

O'Grady signs in twice a day with the Harcourt Terrace police station. He has also undertaken not to seek travel documentation and has surrendered his passport.

O’Grady was charged with the molestation of two brothers between 1978 and 1991.

However, during interview for the award-winning documentary “Deliver Us From Evil” he confessed to having molested up to 25 children. His acts cost the Stockton diocese millions in settlement claims from sexual abuse lawsuits.

In 1993, he went to prison to serve a 14-year-sentence for his crimes. He was released after six years and deported to Ireland.
