Re: Fr. Donald McGuire

Fr. Wild,

I am writing to you on behalf of the many victim/survivors of childhood sexual abuse by clergy who are members of our international self help organization, but particularly those victim/survivors of rape and childhood sexual assault of the Jesuit priest, Fr. Donald McGuire.

McGuire, as you know, was convicted in Wisconsin and Illinois of multiple state and federal counts of child sexual assault in 2006 and 2010 and is currently serving a 20 year sentence.

Thousands of pages of new court documents filed in a Chicago lawsuit yesterday concerning McGuire and his Jesuit superiors incontrovertibly demonstrate that the Jesuit order, under the direction of several provincial superiors over a period of time spanning nearly four decades, knew with certainty that McGuire was a serial predator and an ongoing and chronic danger to children.

According to one of the nation’s leading experts quoted in the New York Times yesterday, there has rarely been seen in the history of the church sex abuse scandal, “such detailed and frequent notice received by the priest’s superiors, so many ‘directives’ regarding the priest’s future behavior, and so much evidence presented to his superiors that those directives were being violated, without the priest being removed from ministry.”
