A Roman Catholic priest from Ontario will stand trial on child sexual abuse charges.

Alejandro Castillo is charged with multiple counts of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. He’s pleaded not guilty.

Authorities say the 58-year-old priest repeatedly molested a 12-year-old boy and may have sexually abused at least two other children while serving at Our Lady of Guadalupe church in Ontario.

The Diocese of San Bernardino removed Castillo last year after the sexual abuse claims surfaced. The priest has been barred from having contact with parishioners.

But many of them are supporting Castillo. They’ve held prayer vigils, set up websites for his defense and raised money to bail him out of jail.

Supporters say Castillo is innocent and has done a lot of good work on behalf of the largely Latino congregation. Castillo is scheduled to be arraigned at the end of the month.
