The Cape Cod summer camp attended by a young Sen. Scott Brown will not reopen this summer while state authorities investigate allegations of child sex abuse.

Camp Good News in Sandwich announced last night that it needs to review its operations before reopening.

Meanwhile, the American Camp Association says the camp has lost its accreditation but can reapply if the allegations are proven false.

“We have a commitment to the investigative process and the safety of children,” said ACA’s Peg Smith. “And that’s our ultimate — all of our ultimate — responsibilities.”

Camp Good News said Friday it “understands and respects” the decision.

In February, Brown revealed in his memoir that he’d been molested at a Christian summer camp on Cape Cod in the 1970s. Camp Good News officials confirmed that Brown had attended their camp, and they apologized for anything that happened there.

On Tuesday, a longtime camp employee committed suicide after being accused of molesting a boy there in the 1980s.

Others have said they were abused at the camp since Brown’s revelation.
