SANDWICH (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A South Weymouth mother told FOX 25 she is shocked and saddened to learn about sexual abuse allegations at Camp Good News on Cape Cod.

Marie Newton sent her son and daughter to the Christian summer camp in Sandwich from 2000 to 2009.

"It's scary to think I had my kids there for as long as I did knowing that there were people there who shouldn't have been working as counselors or working on the grounds at all," said Newton.

Newton added that her children had positive experiences at the camp and were never harmed.

Six former campers have recently claimed they were sexually abuse at the family owned and operated camp.

Accusations have made against two employees including 43 year old Chuck Devita. Devita shot and killed himself at the camp last week. Devita's mother says she warned a former camp director about her son but she claims the warning was ignored. Camp Good News denies Devita's mother ever contacted the camp with concerns.

Marie Newton believes Camp Good News Administrators should have done more to protect campers. "Were just finding out after someone had to take their life that all of this has happened? I just feel like it could have prevented if they didn't sweep things under the rug," said Newton.

In his recent memoir Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown revealed he was molested at a Cape Cod Summer camp when he was a child. Brown did not name the camp but it's widely believed to be Camp Good News.
